Owl Pillow Box Treat Holders

I am soooo late with the September treats for the children at OHM although I have had the file designed for weeks.  I love this owl pillow box from the new Lori Whitlock 'To You From Me' cart.  The box itself actually closes the way it is supposed to do although I had to retrace the score lines as my Gen 1 Explore does not do a consistent job of scoring.  (Do you hear justification for the new Explore Air 2 that's supposed to be out soon? LOL!)

I had to 'slice' apart the wings because they cut as though they were placed on the sides of the owl and this was a huge waste of paper.  This is an easy fix that's worth doing when cutting multiples of a design.

The original owl has a heart on his belly but since I wanted to add an apple and a sentiment there, I used 'hide contour' to eliminate the heart.  The sentiment comes from 'Autumn Celebrations' and I customized it by slicing off the pumpkin.  I stamped the belly with one of the background stamps that came with my CTMH 'Flower Market' bundle.  If you don't look too closely, they kinda, sorta look like feathers!

The apple is, of course, everyone's favorite image from 'Doodlecharms.'  Pop over to the BBTB2 page and see how many of the DT used this apple! I am linking my project with this week's challenge but wish, wish, wish that there were lots of entries to inspire me.  Sigh!  Thanks for visiting with me today : ) Christine

Playing With a Fall Gap Card!

I love all the 'scene' cards that are out there in blogland, but know that even with my Misti, I could never ever get everything lined up, masked, inked and positioned correctly.  But I can, sorta, kinda create a 'scene' with the Print 'n Cut feature of the Explore!  And here it is:-

I started with a gap card (directions here) and made the gap 2.86 inches wide to allow the 'scene' to peek through. The card stock comes from DCWV Pumpkin Patch and proved to be rather difficult to fold correctly even with the score line.  I had to manually score on top of the line the score tool made.  Ughhh!

It was fun choosing the images to go inside the card and arranging them to make a pleasing scene.  Can you see Katie in there?

Wouldn't this be fun with the word 'Noel' and a Christmas scene inside?  Or 'Birthday' with cake, balloons and presents inside?

I used Art Nouveau for the word 'Fall' and Birthday Bash for 'Happy' and 'Y'all!'   The other carts I used are Country Life, Pop Up Neighborhood,  Summer Celebrations, and Pet Shop.  I selected the leaves from the Sesame Street Seasons cart, but there are tons of other leaf images in DS if you do not have this cart.

Here's the file for the card

and for the card without embellishments

Happy Fall Y'All

Since I've been making treats for the children at OHM, I find that I peruse the candy shelves at Safeway from a different perspective.  When I saw the beautiful bronze wrappings on the Hershey caramel kisses, I just had to buy them for the September treats.

I found my stash of 3 inch treat bags  and determined how big I needed to make the topper.  Searching for 'leaf' on Design Space, I came across this leaf label from Paper Trimmings and to save time, changed it from the 'cut' icon to the 'draw' icon.  I attached a rectangle to form the topper base and found some gorgeous Colorbok copper foil paper for the leaf layer.    Everything went on just two mats!

Here they are:-

I was kinda glad to get away from cutesy for this month's treats.  Hope the children enjoy eating them as much as I enjoyed making them.   Thanks for visiting with me today!  : )  Christine

The Colors of Fall

This stamp came with my latest batch of CTMH goodies last week.  I love it!  I instantly thought of the Colors of Fall challenge over at CardzTV and here is my card.

Did you know you can run little pieces of metal through the Cuttlebug?  I 'm probably the last crafter in the U.S. to find this out but I love the embossed results.  Gonna try this on a Christmas card as soon as I can get the chaos in my craft room straightened!

A Silhouette Project

I am still learning the intricacies of my Silhouette Cameo and am often surprised at how the cut turns out!  This subway wall art piece is much 'blockier' than I had imagined and to soften the overall look, I went with this very curvy tree - which turned out far 'curvier' than I anticipated. But... I like it!  (Sorry about that window reflection on the glass over the piece!)

Can you tell that I am missing decorating my Kindergarten classroom according to the season?  LOL!

Playing with hexagons...

is harder than you would think!  Being absolutely terrible at estimating quantities, I cut 8, (yes 8!) of the larger hexagons and then could only fit 3 or 4 on the card!  Naturally, I cut fewer of the smaller hexagons and, of course, had to go back and cut more!

It isn't easy to arrange them in a pleasing shape, especially when wearing a fuzzy sweater that acts as a hexagon magnet!

Anyway, here are the two cards I managed to complete,  Not thrilled with either of them.  So, on to Plan B - totally scraplift all those beautiful hexagon cards on Pinterest.  Good plan!
